On Newstead Abbey

1 Newstead Abbey.

Newstead Abbey is a reliquary of many, many stories from Lord Byron’s time in residence and the centuries before and after. Each generation has left its mark on the house, but the centrepiece of the site’s history will always be Byron. Inspired by and fascinated with its already ancient history, the poet left an indelible mark on everything that has happened there since.

Simon Brown is Curator at Newstead Abbey. His background is in social-history collections and community engagement. Previous posts across museums in Nottingham include Project Curator at the National Justice Museum and Curator of Social History and World Cultures for Nottingham City Museums and Galleries. Simon is also a Relationship Manager for Arts Council England and Vice President of the Museums Association.
